Floods Could Cost zl.14bn

Flooding could cause damage totaling zl.14 billion as the country braces for a second wave of devastation following last month’s floods, the Rzeczpospolita daily reported, citing forecasts from five economists.
Janusz Jankowiak, chief economist of the PRB Polish business lobby, was cited by the paper as saying the government would have to amend its budget for this year. He added that promised EU aid and Poland’s existing budget reserves may not be enough to cover the damages.
But government spokesman Paweł Graś ruled out amending the budget.
PZU, Poland’s largest insurer, has said it has received 70,888 flood-related damage claims.
