Katowice Turns Into Capital of World Economy - ECC

The Second European Economic Congress (EEC), the largest conference in Central Europe was officially opened by Jerzy Buzek, President of European Parliament in Katowice yesterday.

The event which creates a broad new forum of dialogue about the challenges to be faced by both European Union and Polish economy have drawn over 3,000 guests from Poland and abroad.

Discussions on the first day were devoted to such topics as: the new economic order, consequences of the financial crisis and Climate and Energy Package.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Acting President Bronisław Komorowski.

Guest speakers included PM advisor Michał Boni, EU Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner designate for Budget and Financial Programming Janusz Lewandowski, Deputy PM and Economy Minister, Waldemar Pawlak, Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski and former Polish president (1990-1995) Lech Wałęsa.
