Poland marks second anniversary of Smolensk plane crash

Ceremonies marking the second anniversary of the April 10, 2010 plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, which killed Poland's former president Lech Kaczynski, his wife Maria and 94 others started across Poland on Tuesday morning.

 

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, accompanied by Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and relatives of the crash victims took part in wreath laying ceremony at the Powazki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.

 

Earlier on Tuesday, the top representatives of lower and upper house of the Polish parliament laid wreaths at a plaque commemorating MPs and senators who were killed in the crash.

 

The April 10 Smolensk crash victims included: Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife, Maria, last Polish President in Exile Ryszard Kaczorowski, Deputy Speakers of the lower and upper Houses of the Polish Parliament, more than a dozen Members of Parliament, commanders in chief of the branches of the armed forces, ministry officials, representatives of state institutions, war veteran and social organizations, Presidential chancellery staff, senior members of the Polish clergy, accompanying persons, government security officers and the 7-member crew.
