Czermna – The Skull Chapel

Travelling through south-western Poland you can suddenly find yourself in a mysterious place which would make you think about the sense of life and death. The chapel in Czermna is built only from human skulls - they come originally from 17th and 18th century and were collected by a local priest - Wacław Tomaszek. He gathered over 20 000 human skulls and bones which were found in the ground after several wars and an epidemic of cholera. His intention was to create the place where people would feel the weakness of life and he managed to do it - the atmosphere in the chapel is impressive.
